Well, it was beginning to look like "The Greatest Story Never Told" was literally never gonna be told.
After years of hype surrounding Saigon's debut album, things were finally looking up when he hooked up with Just Blaze and inked a deal with Atlantic Records. Yet, after months and months of promises and buzz...nothing came to fruition. Then suddenly a single dropped, Just Blaze confirmed the album was finished & mastered...but Atlantic still didn't give us a release date. Soon rumors began swirling about Saigon & Just's ongoing issues with the label which even triggered Sai to post up a bunch of angry MySpace blogs threatening to leak the album himself or even quit rap. However, since then things have been pretty quiet on their side of the tracks as we've heard close to nothing from anyone in Saigon's camp for months.
Then suddenly today, Just Blaze posted a blog titled "Sweet Freedom" that explained that they had been quietly working with Atlantic to be released and have been indeed let go. Amazingly, along with that release, they have retained 100% ownership of the album's masters! For those of you unsure of what this means...They still own all the rights to music they produced while under contract with Atlantic so basically they can now sign with another label and immediately release the finished LP in it's entirety without having to pay any upfront fee or any profits to Atlantic. This type of deal is usually unheard of these days as greedy labels usually rape the artists as hard as possible even if they let go of the masters.
So what now? Well, Just goes onto explain that they already have a few deals in the works and best believe that whoever they sign with will damn near guarantee that the album will be released as soon as humanly possible. Especially considering the album is already finished and all they really need is a new single and some marketing money to get his buzz back on track. Oh and as a little gift, he finished off the good news with an exclusive new track...
