Good lord...this shitty snowy day just got a little better thanks to the leak of a new track from Allah himself; Rakim. All you young'ns should recognize real and show some respect to one of the true pioneers of hip-hop. I say this because I was recently DJing at some high school and some kid comes up to me and says "JV whats up with some Rakim?" of course I can't help but crack a smile, give the kid daps for knowing his shit, and start cueing up the classic Premo produced "Guess Who's Back". So once the record finally drops...the kids kinda stop awkwardly trying to figure out what was playing but eventually started getting into it. Meanwhile I got my head nodding finally enjoying the break between the mainstream garbage most of them teens were requesting. 'Bout halfway in to the track the same kid who requested the track gets my attention and says "What's up with this? I asked for some Rakim"...confused I say "Yo this IS Rakim"...then this fool starts talking bout how Rakim is some latin cat who sings reggaeton. Honestly...my jaw was flat on the ground at this point. I couldn't believe that...and still can't to this day. I mean I'm not old by any means, but a lot of young dudes have absolutely no IDEA about the old school. Shit old school to these kids is me dropping Biggie's "Mo Money Mo Problems" or a joint from 50's first album. It's a damn shame too. That little instance has resonated with me for sometime now...I still can't get over that shit.

But...back to the program...This new joint is supposed to be on Ra's upcoming comeback album "The Seventh Seal". It was originally slated to drop on 7/7/07, but clearly that's came and went with no explanation. I know dude does have and as usual, Rakim comes with the hot flow & lyrics. Let me know what ya'll think of this...
