Although I started listening to hip hop casually in the mid-90's...I didn't start to listen religiously until middle school. Since I am an 80's baby, I look back at my awkward middle school days with memories of my mom having a minor heart attack after hearing The Slim Shady LP blasting from my bedroom...doing horrible impressions of DJ Clue's annoying voice echo...chanting the Ruff Ryders Anthem through the hallways...and more importantly: having arguments over which hip hop posse was best. The late 90's was dominated by large groups & labels like: The R.O.C., Ruff Ryders, Cash Money, Bad Boy, & No Limit. Needless to say, I was a huge fan of classic East Coast hip hop & was a rabid Ruff Ryders & Roc-a-fella supporter. With that devotion came a necessary hatred towards The South and especially The Cash Money Millionaires. I immediately wrote them off and rarely listened to their music (except at school dances where I would dance to anything in hopes of landing a chick down for a fingerbang...but thats a whole notha story).

Now where am I going with all this? Well my hatred ran so deep towards Cash Money that up until recently, I refused to listen to anything by anyone ever affiliated with them. I had been hearing all the hype about Lil' Wayne for years but still wrote him off. When "The Carter 2" dropped, I decided to give it a thorough listen to see if there was any legitimate truth to the hype. I wasn't blown away...but he had vastly improved since his Cash Money days and I could see potential in tracks like "Best Rapper Alive" and "Receipt". Needless to say, I've continued to listen and follow his progress over the past 2+ years and ummmmm....yeah...I admit it...I'm a fan.

I hear people hate relentlessly about his nasally voice, quirky personality, lazy lyrics, and cheap similies...but Weezy is entertaining as hell and an undeniable presence in the game. There is no one touching his swagger, emotion, depth, and the most important to his fans: the frequency and amount of material he puts out. I am starting to think he is a modern day Pac...he must be recording for hours each day. He may not be the best rapper alive...but he is the most entertaining and that's good enough for me and apparently millions of others.

OK...Enough of me hyping dude...

Here is my personal collection of official Wayne mixtapes released since 2004.

True to the most of the east coast hip hop heads I too had written of weezy entirely even though people were constantly tellin me to play his shit. After finally givin into the hype after one of my boys dropped me dedication 1 and pleaded me to give it listenin, I got hooked and have since heard what seems to be endless amounts of material from wayne. And why he might not be the best rapper ever, the stuff hes puttin out is definitely more creative and fresh than anyone this minute.
