I think it's safe to say it has been a pretty average year for hip-hop. We're more than halfway through, and there really haven't been many albums that have really blown me away (no homo). And though there are some widely anticipated albums dropping this fall and winter that could change everything, I'd like to take this time to put y'all up on one of the best slept-on albums of 2007 before Kanye and Curtis put a stronghold on your IPods & CD Players.

It's been a rough few years for Kweli. The loyal underground fanbase he gained after his first two albums (Blackstarr w/ Mos Def & Reflection Eternal w/ Hi-Tek) were quick to criticize his last album "The Beautiful Struggle" because of it's commercial and mainstream appeal. A lot of fans turned their back accusing him of trading his backpack for some quick cash. Although I didn't write him off completely, I definitely have been disappointed with his recent material...until now. To put it plain and simple...Ear Drum is fuckin ill. The album flows perfectly from front to back and features some great production from Madlib, Just Blaze, Kanye West, Will.i.am, & Pete Rock. Kweli really found the perfect balance of topics, guest features, and flows to make the album damn near perfect. Give this joint a good listen and if you like what you hear...go out and buy it.
