The Mix-Up (10/13)

Here's a few of the joints I intended on dropping last night before I ran into some technical difficulties! It's a nice crop of fresh mixtapes including yet ANOTHER new joint from Charles Hamilton that just dropped a few seconds ago...are any of you out there feeling this kid like that? It seems like everyone is all hyped & worked up over him and although I see some promise and definite originality, I'm still not sure if I'm drinking that Kool Aid yet. Besides, I think he should take his time to develop his tracks & concepts thoroughly before just pulling a Weezy & releasing virtually every track he records. Then again...Maybe it's just me?

In other news, I also got the new "Oracle Pt. 2" tape from Green Lantern & Grafh. I gotta admit, I unfairly hated on Grafh right from the jump since he came along right around the time where NYC had a few dozen "emcees" emerge trying to emulate that 50 Cent/G-Unit strategy by grinding heavy on the mixtape circuit with the same old thugs, drugs, and punchline formula. It was also the time where the east coast started to fade from the spotlight and virtually all those dudes never amounted to shit. Now that the dust has settled a few years later, I finally decided to give Grafh a chance since he managed to maintain through the mixtape rapper fad. And once I did, I've been checking for dude regularly ever since. So with that said, this new tape featuring appearances from Crooked I, Young Chris, Papoose, & Jadakiss gets the cosign from JV.

And finally, I got a little random gem for you guys in the form of a new blend/remix tape from some of the best doing it: DJ Benzi, Mick Boogie, and some talented DJ I haven't heard before Neoteric. "Motivation Pt. 2" is one of those non-stop party mixes that actually incorporates SKILL into the effort. It features over 50+ tracks of new, old, and reallll old hits remixed & blended to perfection. The only downside is that it was only released as one giant MP3 file, but that's to be expected with a project like this that is intended to be enjoyed as one giant clusterfuck of musical goodness. So I definitely recommend checking this out, especially since tapes like this seem to be a lost art in the hip-hop world. Perhaps I should come out of retirement to show how it's really done?
