Before it's fall from grace a few years ago, The Source was hands down, the illest hip-hop magazine for a long, long time. Back before the internet jumped off, the mag was an essential part of any hip-hop head's month. And whether you were checking for the Hip-Hop Quotables, Unsigned Hype, Ill cover stories, or how many mics your favorite rapper's new album got...The Source was one of our only connections to what was really good in the game. Of course there was plenty of other hot features in the magazine, but for me, nothing was better than checking for the "Fat Tape" section where they highlighted some of the freshest new tracks that caught the ear of the staff that month. Of course it wasn't as easy as it was nowadays to track down all the cuts listed, so it made hunting down new albums, mixtapes, & radio mix shows a lot more difficult...especially when you just couldn't find the track so you just had to wait patiently 'til it made it's way public. I'm sure plenty of you older heads feel me with those experiences! So where am I going with this? Well someone thought it'd be ill to go through some of the old "Fat Tape" lists from the mid-90's and compile & drop them. I got my hands on a bunch of them so I thought it'd be cool to drop them a few at a time for you guys to peep. A lot of them are made up of classic cuts, forgotten gems, and some overall sick music that serve as a little time capsule for us to vibe with.Check out the first three from August, October & November of 1994!
