Thanks to Dela I've been stuck in 1993 all weekend...And I aint talking about Pos, Maseo & Dave neither. More like the French producer Dela. Now although the Paris based young beatsmith is still relatively new to the game,
he has already made quite an impression across the Atlantic here in the U.S. On his first official mixtape "Atmosphere Airlines" which dropped in 2007, he worked with a bunch of quality American artists like Supastition, Blu, J-Live, Torae, and the legendary Large Professor. He wasn't done there neither...for his official debut album "Changes Of Atmosphere", which just dropped internationally in September, he managed to link up with even more of the game's most respected artists including Termanology, Talib Kweli, Naledge (of Kidz In The Hall) and once again recorded tracks with Blu, Large Professor & Supastition.
Dela's whole style revolves around classic boom bap drums mixed with some killer sax & horn samples and ill piano loops which creates a very laidback, jazz infused sound reminiscent of that early 90's east coast production style. Ever since I stumbled over Dela on Friday afternoon (thanks to a random Pandora playlist) I haven't been able to stop listening to either "Changes Of Atmosphere" or "Atmosphere Airlines". If you are a fan of early 90's hip-hop from Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Tribe Called Quest, Native Tongues etc...do yourself a favor and give these joints a spin. You will not be disappointed! Even though there are a few ehhh tracks from unknown artists here and there, the ones that feature familiar names are well worth the download...simply put...it's just dope!!!
