While doing my daily rounds across the web this morning, I happened to notice that one of my spots had thrown up a video from some kid named Shawn Jackson. I kinda brushed it off at first mostly because of dude's fairly anonymous, plain 'ole name...but once I caught it a second time at another blog, I hit the play button on a whim...and man am I glad I did. The West Coast newcomer's video for his first single "Feelin' Jack" off his debut album is fresh as hell. The video is simple, yet effective and perfectly depicts dudes mix of old yet new & simple yet complex music and left me wanting to find out as much as I could about Mr. Jackson. So here's what I got...Shawn is currently preparing to drop his debut album "First Of All" on July 8th through Tres Records, which happens to be the label home of another left coast diamond in the rough...last year's rookie of the year...Blu! I also got to take a listen to a few other tracks including "Go There With You" & "Big Money Heist" and each showcased some soulful beats, great concepts, and most importantly...some ill lyricism that has been sorely missed in the game for quite some time.
