As we make our way through hip-hop's glory years in the '90s, we've reached 1991. Just like the last installment, '91 continued to introduce the new breed of emcees to mainstream. Glancing over the list of the top 40 list for the year, we've got a nice mix of artists from all regions despite the fact that only a year later, a major shift happened, as the west coast hip-hop scene began to dominate the traditional east coast region. '91 also saw groups such as A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, De La Soul, Geto Boys, Leaders of the New School, Main Source, and Naughty By Nature begin to dominate hip-hops solo acts. Also like I stated above, the West Coast began to firmly establish themselves as a legitimate scene with dudes like DJ Quik, AMG, Ice T, Ice Cube, WC, & Cypress Hill creating a fresh new sound that showed off the California lifestyle and attitude.
